Remembering Bob Myrick

Brace "Bob" Myrick. Thirty days ago on Friday evening, December 30, 2011, Bob passed away at home at age 65. He was born on September 8, 1946 in Sacramento, CA. He was one of twin boys born to Hank and Barbara Myrick. He was married to Carol Myrick for 20 years. He graduated from Hiram Johnson. He became a Mechanical Technician for Hertz Penske Trucking in 1975, and retired in 2008 after 33 years of service. He was a loyal member of the Teamsters Union 150 for 41 years, and a member of the Moose Lodge 1762. He will be remembered as a man who enjoyed playing pool, fishing, pheasant hunting, golfing, and as a coach for Washington Little League and Washington Softball League. He was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memories are his children Robert Myrick and Mary Hernandez, Michelle Somkopoulos and husband Speros, Shari Dotson and husband Denny; his twin brother William Myrick and wife Janice, his sister Dixie Vereschegan and husband Pete; his grandchildren Celia Almerez, Morgan Almerez, Joshua Myrick, Deanna Hernandez, Tristen Dotson, as well as many other family members. Remembering Rich Huber

RIP Brother Richard Huber. Rich was named a Shining Star, Moose Legionnaire of the Year, by the Mighty California Moose Legion 190 in 2009/2010, and received the Moose Legion Top Sponsor Award in 2009. Rich served as Governor of the West Sacramento Lodge in 1992-1993 and has continued to serve as a District Officer over the years. He will always be remembered for his long time support for many programs in the Moose especially the Kid's Fishing Derby, The Mighty 190 Moose Legion and the MooseHoppers Campers Club. In accordance to Rich's wishes there will be no funeral service. Rich wanted to be cremated and have his brother take his ashes to the family plot in Montana to rest next to his father. A memorial service performed by Rich's friends and Legion Fellows will be scheduled for a later date. The photo on the left is from Rich's birthday in 2005 with his wife Linda.

Quietly passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2012 due to complications after surgery. Owner of A-1 Lock & Supply on Franklin Blvd for 31 years.
Born in Glendive Montana 12-29-1947. Preceded in death by his parents John & Hulda & his sister Judy. Leaves behind his best friend & bride for 28 years Linda, son Jarriod, brother Duane (Carolyn), sister Jane, niece Michelle (Gary; daughters Skyler & Charlie) niece Brandee (son Jordan) several aunts, uncles, cousins, brother-in-law Craig Jensen, nephew Jason Jensen & many wonderful buddies and friends.
Member of Loyal Order of Moose, Moose Legion, American Legion, Elks, AMVETS & NRA. Loved hunting, fishing, shooting, Moosehopper camping, reading, a nightly toddy, old time country music, helping children in need & chatting about the good old days.
Proud to have served in USAF. There will not be a memorial service. Rich's ashes will be taken back to Montana & placed on the Huber Family Farm beside his father. Rich did not want a lot of fuss; just wanted his friends to know he appreciated you all, loved his family dearly & to be remembered fondly.
Rest In Peace Dear - you were always my love, my light and my 'Shining Star'.

Fund Raiser for West Sacramento Christmas Basket Project

Thanks to Debbie Johnson for coordinating the event, the Taco Crew for cooking and serving the delicious dinner and all the volunteers who worked so hard to make this annual fund raiser a success.

Memorial service for our LOOM Fellow Gene "Pops" Evenson is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Friday October 14, 2011. Check in the social quarters for more information. Born August 27, 1919 in North Dakota. Promoted into heaven on October 8, 2011 at age 92. He is now with his loving wife Verna after sharing 62 years of marriage. Eugene is survived by his children, Vernon (Deborah), Cindy (Jim), Hokey (Pat) and Gloria, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Eugene was a 60 year member of Carpenters Local # 46 and a member of West Sacramento Moose Lodge # 1762. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1066 26th Street Sacramento, CA. Remembering Joyce Collins

COLLINS, Joyce A.
Born May 12, 1940 in Sacramento, and fulfilled God's eternal plan on September 8, 2011, after a very brief illness. She was surrounded by a room full of people she loved. Joyce had no fear of death, she just didn't want to leave her earthly family. She was nearly separated from them in February 2010, but God granted her another 18 months. Then, that precious soul which had been on loan to her earthly family returned Home. Hallelujah, Amen. Joyce is survived by Grover, her best friend and loving husband of 52 years. Devoted mother to Bobby (Melinda), Sharyn (Dan), and Rick. Happy to be called "Grammy" by her adoring grandchildren Jennifer, Taylor,Matthew, Amber, AJ, Rebekah, and Liam. Blessed with the birth of her great grandson Isaak. Enjoyed a loving relationship with her nephew Billy, his wife Denise, their children Derrick (Jessica) and Peter, and recently blessed to meet her new great grandniece, Payton. Survived by her brother Bill (Cocee), and grandchildren by marriage John, Russell, Lena, Polly, Mike, and great granddaughter Sophia. Joyce was deeply enriched by her church family at Lighthouse Covenant Church in West Sacramento. We will comfort and support each other until one-by-one, we all join her on the other side. This love and support is occurring naturally, but it is exactly what she wanted. There are many others Joyce spoke of who will miss her and fondly remember the important role she played in their lives at various times throughout the years. Joyce was spiritually strong, patriotic, and extremely giving. She was selfless, routinely considering others before herself. She was a nurturing mother-figure to many; a role she loved. She spent many years laughing with her husband, her family, and enjoying the company of friends. A celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Saturday, September 17 at 11:00 AM, at Lighthouse Covenant Church located at 3605 Gregory Avenue in West Sacramento. Reception immediately following. An angel has gone to heaven. Carla Quigley of West Sacramento, 48, was called to heaven on June 27th at 5:02pm. She was born in Houston, TX on June 18, 1963 to the late Carl, and Emma Lee Loftin. She is survived by her beloved husband Neal, amazing daughter Samantha, step daughter Shannon, brother Kenny and his wife Michelle , brother Douglas and his wife Consuelo, many nieces and nephews and more friends than any of us can count. Carla was known for her kindness, hospitality, generous spirit, great cooking, quick wit, and great sense of humor. She will be missed by both of her Bunco groups, the "coffee girls", her neighbors, her coworkers, her family, and her friends. Carla will be memorialized at the North Sacramento Funeral Home on Saturday July 2 at 2:00pm followed by an open house at the family home. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the John Wayne Cancer Institute in her memory.

Born July 23, 1918, in Malta, Idaho, the seventh of thirteen children born to Jesse Samuel Shill and Margaret LaVilla Duncan Shill. After a brief illness, passed away on Monday June 6, 2011. He is survived by one sister, Lillie Ramsey (Robert - deceased) and three brothers, Hazen Earl Shill (Charlene) of Portland, Oregon; Fred Shill (Betty) of Denver, Colorado; and Douglas Shill (Betty) of Mesa, Arizona. His first wife, Myrtle Orena Westerby Shill, passed an January 4, 1967. He is survived by five children from that marriage, Kenneth Cecil (Judy), Margaret Shill, Richard Orvil (Linda) and JoAnn Kortuem (Jay) of West Sacramento CA, Shirley Breshears (Roger Leon -deceased) of Wichita, KS. He is also survived by his second wife Marjorie Jean Shill and children, Karen Goulart (Gary) Orangevale, CA; and John Still of West Sacramento, CA. He also has four step- children Thomas Howard (deceased), Robert Howard, living in Florida, Dorothy Howard, living in Ohio and Betty Kay Nagel of Vacaville, CA; and 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He moved his family to Bryte, CA in 1951 where he worked at a Flying A gas station on Merkley and West Capital Ave. in West Sacramento. He also worked as a cement finisher and carpenter. He joined the Bryte Volunteer Department. He was one of the first paid full time firemen hired by the Bryte Fire Department in 1962. He was a member of the West Sacramento Moose Lodge and enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting. Memorial service to be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 2:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2667 Linden Road, West Sacramento, CA.

Preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Johnson. Prior to her marriage, Mary spent 15 years as a Catholic Nun. She was an active member of the Women of Moose, #1431 of West Sacramento, the Sacramento Yacht Club and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She held numerous awards for her achievements in Sales with Avon. Born in Richland, Nebraska on October 15, 1921, and entered into rest on March 11, 2011 in West Sacramento, CA. He was the son of John and Clara Saalfeld. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after 42 years of service. He was a member of the VFW in West Sacramento since 1951. He is preceded in death by brother Waldean Saalfeld and sister Lorene Wiebold. He is survived by his wife of 64 years of marriage, Twilla; daughter Cheryl (Manfred); son Terry (Beverly); grandsons, Robert, Bryon (Amber), Stephen (Jody), Benjamin (Marsha); 7 great-grandchildren, Beau, Riley, Presley, Owen, Jason, Reagan, Blake; and sister Thedora 'Sis'. Cremation arrangements under the direction of River Cities Funeral Chapel. There will be no funeral service per Glenn's request. There will be a celebration of life at VFW Post 8762, 905 Drever St., West Sacramento, CA 95691 on Sunday, March 27, at 1:00pm. The annual Taco Night Fundraiser for the West Sacramento Christmas Basket Project was a great success raising almost $3000. The high point of the evening was the Gift Auction with Christy Jourdan playing auctioneer. Many thanks to Millie Pepitone for her generous donation of 18 gift baskets for the auction. Debbie Johnson and her volunteer crew have done a great job for our Lodge community service project.

Remembering Terry Osburn

Passed away peacefully at home with family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Claudette; daughters, Sherry (Robert) Williams, Vicki Osborn, and Lori Osborn; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister Patsy Miller of Oregon and numerous nephews and nieces. Began his final journey peacefully at home in West Sacramento surrounded by his family. Preceded in death by his parents George and Gladys Greenhalgh and brother Richard. Bob is survived by his wife and best friend, Brenda Greenhalgh, cherished children Amy, George and Annin Greenhalgh (Kyle Sirman), Jezikka Sullivan (Josh), Tish Palamidessi (Christopher), Joseph and Timothy Avalos and Arron Clark (Blair). Loving grandfather to Ethan, Christian and Gabriela. He also leaves behind his niece Shamryn Cole (son Theo) and nephew Justin Greenhalgh (Audra) in addition to his sisters-in-law, Jeanine Suttie, Patricia Bergdahl, Dee Kelley, and many family and friends.
Bob graduated from UCLA in 1969 and followed in his father's footsteps in the field of Public Health. His early career was spent in the Los Angeles and Mendocino County Health Departments. In 1980 he joined the California Department of Health Services, retiring in 2003 as an Environmental Program Manager. His contributions to California's health programs throughout his career were invaluable. In retirement he continued his dedication to public health which enabled him to travel the world with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and most recently worked with the Sacramento County Environmental Management Department.
Bob-O loved the Beach Boys, travelling and telling jokes wherever he went. He never met a stranger and was larger than life, which he spent in the moment only stopping to reflect on how blessed he truly was. He adored his children, was devoted to his family and was a father figure to so many.
A tribute to Bob's life will be held at the River Cities Funeral Chapel located at 910 Soule Street in West Sacramento on October 8 at 11:00 am. Memorials preferred to Kaiser Hospice, 2025 Morse Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95825 or the West Sacramento Moose Lodge.

Tom lost his valiant battle with cancer on 9-5-2010. He was 63. During his long fight, he kept his smile, humor, and love for things great & small. A Connecticut native, he experienced the closeness of Bethel, long summers in Wells Beach, Maine, the lights of N.Y. City, and drafting school in Chicago, before coming to California and the Sacramento region. An avid snow skier, football and hockey player in his youth. He excelled at fishing, hunting, and golf for most of his life. He shot good games of darts and billards too. Before his illness began, Tom worked for Simms Metal, but most closely identified himself as a member of ILWU 17, 18, working at the Port of Sacramento and regional rice mills. Other jobs included big rig driver, hauling across the Western States, tree climber, and draftsman. He was a past Teamster and Moose member. Survived by wife, Carolyn Ellison Sisson. His sister, Pamela Sisson of CT, survived eleven days beyond him. Preceded by father and mother, Edward and Eleanor Sisson, sister Patricia Taylor, and 1st wife, Catherine. James was born in Sacramento to Manuel and Eloise Costa. He made his home in Citrus Heights with his wife Veronica in 1983. He served his country with pride in the U.S. Navy from 1954 - 1958 and retired as an Operations Supervisor of Civil Engineering department of McClellan AFB. A loyal member of the Order of Moose since 1979 at Administrator Lodge 1762 in West Sacramento. James is survived by many family members including his sons James M. Costa Jr. and Brad Carr, brother Thomas Costa, sister Mary (Les) Gini and nephew Tommy Costa. Visitation and Services will be held Wed. 9/8/2010 from 4-8 P.M. and Thurs. 9/9/2010 at 10:00 A.M at East Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA.

Vernon "Dee" DeBerry passed away April 14, 2010, in Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC. He was born in Needville, TX, and spent his youth in Sacramento, CA. He later joined the U.S. Navy and spent 20 years serving his country.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene DeBerry of Joanna, SC, his son, Robert DeBerry of Columbia, and daughter, Carol Nabors and son-in-law, Marty, of Kinards, SC. He had one grandson, Kenneth Baker, and two brothers, Fred DeBerry and Carley DeBerry, all from Sacramento.

Service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Pine Lawn Mausoleum in Clinton, SC. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church in Joanna.

Gene Evenson's 90th Birthday party was held at the lodge on Friday August 28th. About 150 people showed up to honor our Gene. The guest of honor arrived in white stretch limo accompanied by his escort Mauda Butte, and son Vernon and wife Deborah Evenson. Gene's daughter's Cindy and Gloria with their children and grandchildren are pictured in the family photo. Miss Neva May is also shown congratulating her old friend.

Avis Lucille Charron passed away on July 4, 2009 in Sacramento at the age of 87.
She is survived by her children Anita F. Ellis (Charles) of West Sacramento and
Stanley and Anthony Kinsbury of Aberdeen, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; and 13
great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George A. Charron.
Avis was an educator for the West Sacramento Thrify Drug Store for 22 years
and was an active member of the West Sacramento Women of the Moose Chapter
1431. Friends are invited to attend Celebration Of Life Services on July 10, 2009
at the River Cities Funeral Chapel followed by a luncheon at the Moose Lodge in

June 27, 1927 - May 15, 2009

Barbara was born in Stockton to Georgia (Rossi) and John Ratto. ''Johnnie's'' early death when Barbara was 10 years old was a loss that had a lifelong effect. She grew up to be a beautiful, outgoing woman with a deep need to give and receive love. She is remembered by all who have known her as an energetic and caring person who brought life and a spirit of fun to every encounter.

After her father's death, Barbara was cared for by her Nona Rossi at their home on Scotts Ave. Her mom's marriage to Floyd Dunlap gave Barbara a stepdad who would be a support through much of her life. In her senior year of high school, she met Rumaldo ''Ronnie'' Rendon, the man who would be her life partner for 36 years. Barbara graduated from Stockton High School, and worked at the Naval Annex. She married Ronnie at the age of 22, and gave birth to her daughter Shareen Georgia in 1948. Ronnie's sons Ron and Carlos, joined the young family. The early years of marriage were difficult, raising three small children on very limited money, requiring Barbara to quickly learn skills as a homemaker and mother. For several years she worked at the Richmond Chase Cannery under the watchful supervision of her beloved Uncle Tony Ratto. Ronnie became a longshoreman at the Port of Stockton, establishing a career and many friendships - that would carry the couple through to his death in 1984. Barbara also worked as an inspector at the Diamond Walnut plant in Stockton, commuting from her new home in West Sacramento, until her daughter graduated from college. There with her dearest friend, Alfreida ''Fritze'' Watson, and a lively group of women, she worked hard, formed strong bonds, and brought a little playfulness to every day. After her retirement, Barbara and Ronnie traveled far and wide in their motor home, having countless adventures and good times with their friends. Seeing the world, connecting with people, enjoying food, drink, and life's beauty these were Barbara's passions. After surviving breast cancer, Barbara became active in the support group, Encore, where she made many new friendships. She also was active in Dr. Bodai's campaign for breast cancer awareness, the Wall of Hope at the State Capitol, the Breast Art and Education Project, and Reach to Recovery. She volunteered for the Children's Home at the Casa Garden Restaurant, the ''Eagles'' Special Olympics golf group, and the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, where she displayed her typical flair and joy in life. For the past 13 years, Barbara lived in her home in Campus Commons, Sacramento. She was an enthusiastic member of the Cadillac Drivers Golf Club, continued to travel at every opportunity, and kept up her activities with friends and family. Her relationship with her daughter Shareen and son-in-law Larry Stanfill was an ongoing source of joy and comfort. In her last weeks of life, the family was blessed with the special care and support of Manu Biantubukoso and Vani Leyaleyadi, and of the fine people with Yolo Hospice. Barbara died peacefully at the Rendon-Stanfill home in the evening of May 15. She is and will be deeply loved and greatly missed.

Friends are welcome for visitation on Thursday, April 21, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at W.F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento. A memorial gathering will be held this Friday, May 22, at 11:30 a.m. at the Newman Catholic Community Center, 5900 Newman Court, across from Calif. State University. Following a procession to Stockton, graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, 719 Harding Way. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that donations in Barbara's honor be made to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617, or to The Breast Cancer Research Program, 300 Lakeside Dr., Oakland, CA 94612.

Eleanor Johnson passed away on May 31, 2009. Eleanor was Senior Regent of the West Sacramento Women of the Moose in 1976-77.

ROCK PORT, Mo. — Eleanor Johnston, 88, of Rock Port, passed away May 31, 2009, at a Maryville care center. She was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Hatton, N.D. In May of 1937, she was married to Thomas Church. He later passed away. Eleanor then married Henry Johnston in May of 1964. He also preceded her in death. She moved to Rock Port five and a half years ago to be close to her family and to enjoy the many little ones. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Alice (Brogan) Enger; husbands, Thomas and Henry; sister, Calette and her husband, Alvin Berg; and brothers, Willis, Allen, and Donald Enger.She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Connie Church of Verdigre, Neb.; daughters and sons-in-law: LaDonna and Richard Pankau of Rock Port; and Calette and Bobbie Jordan of Anniston, Ala.; step daughters: Marnie Woolery of Cotton, Calif.; Carla Virgo of Yuba City, Calif.; and Sheryl Nichols of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters: Dorothy Verwoest of Fresno, Calif.; and Helen Enger of Columbia, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
